Do not spend the gems that you have on making building right away. the initial constructions are on their way to completion and you may wait for them to finish. The tutorial instructs you to place cannons for defense.
When it comes to deploy troops, the best strategy is to use a few troops as possible in the initial stages to save resources, place 2 wizards on either side of the cannon and you are good to go.
You are protected by shield for the first 3 days of the game, which means that you cannot be attacked, other players if you attack other players your shield automatic down, so you do not need to spend gem for fast upgrade of the defense at the beginning.
In first 2 days focus on upgrading the gold mines and Elixir collections as much as possible, so that you may be able to upgrade your town hall easily. Build Elixir Storage and Gold Storage in the beginning as it will be enough and more capacity.
Base Setting Up - in the remaining 24 hours or 1 day, while your shield up, start working on your best defenses, cannon and mortars, after creating cannon and mortars create barriers between the enemy troops and your important building by making walls and traps. you can put outside the barrier the non important building like Laboratory and Army Camp to distract the Enemy.
Train Units - Unit are troops which are trained in the Barracks and stationed in the Army camp. More Barracks more troops you build, More Army Camp More Army capacity. As the Game progresses. more units are unlocked, and the previous ones can be upgrade to cause more damage, as the enemies attack your village, you have to attack theirs with your army and rob them of their resources.
